This was a common and challenging theme for classical artists - to make the flat painted form look like real, hanging cloth. Of course in medieval times real tapestries were much more part of a normal way of life and one could expect to find six or seven woven to order in an affluent household.
"Tapestry” is painted on two flush doors and an area of wall above. Just below the centre of the tapestry painted wooden handles can be glimpsed. The shadow on the right and the bottom edge help the illusion that the tapestry is hanging slightly off the surface of the doors.
